Fluid energising appts. and method, in which the electric discharge energiser comprises (a) an outer, hollow tubular electrode having an inlet adjacent one end thereof and an outlet adjacent the other end; (b) a rod-like inner electrode, (c) a power supply for providing an electric discharge between the electrodes; (d) focusing means disposed between the inner and outer electrodes, the focusing means having a central bore therein for receiving the inner electrode, fluid passage means connecting the inlet and the outlet, the focusing means being constructed and arranged to focus a discharge into the passage means, and (e) a fluid supply connected to the inlet providing a supply of fluid to be energised.
