PURPOSE:To prevent an undue temperature rise of an electrolyte and ensure a required temperature lowering during a predetermined time period by selectively operating two coolers with different cooling ability for predetermined time periods according to the temperature of the electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:Coolers CT(cooling tower) 18 and CU(chiller unit) 19 having different cooling ability respectively are connected, for example, to heat exchangers 17, 17 for two batteries 16, 16 via a pump 21, valves 22, 23, 24 and a cooling water tank 20. The selection of CT 18 and CU 19, the detection of the temperature of an electrolyte, the start and the termination of the operation of the pump and valves and the duration thereof are controlled by a computer and a time, not shown in the figure. If a predetermined temperature lowering can not be achieved in a predetermined time period when CT 18, having e.g., the lower cooling ability, is selected and operated, CU 18 with large cooling ability is automatically operated to maintain the temperature of the electrolyte in a predetermined temperature range. |
