The machine for fitting `twist-off' type lids to containers has a conveyor formed by a first endless belt (7). This conveyor carries the containers under a chute which guides a lid (4) on to a container. The container is then guided between two lower parallel belts (11, 12) to the lid fitting station. The lid fitting station has a second pair of endless belts which are in contact with the lid at two diametrically opposite points. These two upper belts are driven so that they impart a rotation to the lid as the containers pass between the lower belts. This rotation tightens the lids on the containers. USE/ADVANTAGE - Machine for fitting `twist-off' type lids to containers. The machine can operate at a higher speed than that of machines at present in use.
