The appts. for a police vehicle (1) has an onboard system for generating (5) a radio transmission from an antenna (14). This is in addition to an optical warning (2) and an acoustic (3) warning. The transmission is in the form of coded signals (14). The receiving vehicle has a pair of antenna (8,16) connected to a two channel receiver (9). The signals are decoded (10) and processed to activate a warning lamp (11) within the vehicle. An acoustic warning can also be relayed through the radio (21). ADVANTAGE - Uses coded transmission to relay warning to specific vehicle. Direction of travel of vehicle is determined.
