In an extruder for producing endless thin processed cheese strips, the novelty is that (a) cheese is fed from a heated supply container (1), equipped with stirring and transporting equipment (2), through one or more driven discharge transporters (4,5) to one or more controllable extrusion nozzle arrangements (6,7,8), the outlet (11) of which can be automatically height-adjusted and which delivers the cheese through a regulatable cooling zone (10,12); and (b) the resulting cheese strip (15) is passed either over automatically adjustable cooling rolls with cooling shells or between calibrating rolls (13,24) and through a cooling sluice chamber (14) onto a packaging foil strip (16). ADVANTAGE - The extrusion equipment has increased throughput rate and reduced size, allows different cheese types to be treated simultaneously and can produce individual cheese strips of different thicknesses.
