The pusher-rod (5) has at least one I-section beam (1) as structural member, and there is, at least on each open side of the beam, a liq.-cooled radiation-shield (6). Variants claimed include several I-beams being arranged alongside and/or over one another and connected together and serving as the structural member of the pusher-rod (5). Several other variants are claimed for the pusher-rod and its construction. USE/ADVANTAGE - Such mechanical pushing arrangements are needed for coke ovens and for pusher-type furnaces in rolling mills, etc. The appts. avoids the drawbacks of the uncooled or internally cooled pusher-rods of current mechanical arrangements.
