PROCESS FOR PREPARING NITRO BENZOIC ACID ALKYL ESTERS

Alkyl(C1-C3) nitrobenzoates are prepared by reacting the nitrobenzoic acid to be esterified with an excess of about 300 to about 600 mol % of a C1-C3-alkanol in a solvent which is inert towards the starting compounds and the reaction product in the presence of a polyfluoroalkanesulphonic acid of the general formula (1> Y(CnF2n)SO3H     (1> in which Y denotes a hydrogen or fluorine atom, with the proviso that if Y is H this hydrogen atom is in the beta -position relative to the sulpho group, or the hydrate thereof as catalyst in an amount of about 0.1 to about 20 mol %, relative to the nitrobenzoic acid used, at temperatures of about 60 to about 120 DEG C.
