<p>An electric light bulb and socket system (20) is described. The system (20) includes a bulb (22) with a base (24) having a substantially cylindrical wall (32) and a single groove (50) extending thereinto and thereabout and also includes a socket base (26) with an open cavity (62) therein and retaining springs (66) for retaining the bulb (22). The retaining springs (22) are mounted within the wall (64) of the socket base (26), except for the lugs (70) of the retaining springs (66) which extend into the socket base cavity (62). The lugs (70) of the retaining springs (66) are dimensioned to, upon the insertion of the bulb (22) into the receptacle (60), protrude into the groove (50) and to seat therewithin. As the lugs (70) are equally spaced about the groove (50), the lugs (70) exert a balanced spring pressure on the bulb (22) to retain the bulb (22) in the socket (26). With this system (20), the insertion of the bulb (22) into the socket (26) is by axial movement without orientation and without rotation thereof. <IMAGE></p> |
