Fast sodium-cooled reactors comprising: a reactor vessel (1), a core (8), a core support structure (9) which divides the inside of the reactor vessel (1) into a high-pressure volume (17) and into a low-pressure volume (11), an electromagnetic circulation pump (18) and an intermediate heat-exchange means (6). The circulation pump is provided with a discharge orifice (20) and a confined gas space (23) which communicates with the discharge orifice (20) and with the high-pressure volume (17), the liquid-metal coolant (2) located above the discharge orifice (20) flowing into the high-pressure volume (17) by means of the discharge gas pressure of the gas accumulated in the confined gas space (22) because of the operation of the electromagnetic circulation pump at the moment of its emergency shutdown. <IMAGE>
