PURPOSE:To obtain a binarized image of less false feature points like bridges and cracks by looking at the binarized image of fingerprint again to correct it. CONSTITUTION:After the variable density picture of fingerprint is subjected to binarization processing and is stored in a binarizing memory 4, the line direction is detected. At this time, the line direction is detected with respect to lines of less breaks out of rising lines and falling lines. A direction detection result inspecting circuit 18 inspects the result of line direction detection. If the line direction can be detected, a picture element value is left as it is; but otherwise, the value of a pertinent picture element in the binarization memory 4 is corrected by inversion in a binarized image correcting circuit 17. |
