PURPOSE:To perform stable torque control in the whole operation region by providing a means for controlling the primary current vector of a motor and a means for controlling the slip frequency of the motor, and performing torque control by a vector control system in a low-speed operation region and by a slip frequency control system in the high-speed operation region. CONSTITUTION:A PWM inverter 1 converts DC voltage into 3-phase AC voltage and supplies it to an induction motor 2 to run an electric rolling stock. Forward/ backward command signals and power running/braking command signals outputted from a main controller 7 are put into a control command generator 6. The control command generator 6 generates an exciting current command signal and a torque current command signal for the induction motor 2 on the basis of a filter capacitor voltage signal, a primary angular frequency command signal, the power running/braking command signals and the forward/backward command signals, and transmits them to a voltage command calculator 5, a current controller 8, and a slip angular frequency calculator 19. And the PWM inverter 1 is controlled by both slip frequency control and vector control.
