PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of a meaningless character code at the time of reading a character code even when the character code is directly overwritten on the position of a specified character string. CONSTITUTION:A 'KANJI' (Chinese character) flag indicating a 'KANJI' code and a front/back flag for distinguishing a 1st byte character code or a 2nd byte character code in the 'KANJI' code are added to each byte in a character code and stored in a storage device 11. In the case of reading out a character code from the device 11 and outputting it, a space character code output judging part 13 judges whether the character code to be outputted is a meaningless code or not based upon 'KANJI' flags and front/back flags added to the character code concerned and two adjacent character codes, and when the character code is meaningless, commands the output of a space character code. A character code conversion part 14 outputs the character code as it is when the space character code output command is not outputted, and when the output is commanded, converts the character code into a space character code and outputs the converted code. |
