The present invention relates to lightweight handling apparatus intended particularly for the transportation of loads such as briefcases, suitcases or the like, made up of a support framework (1) for the load in which there slides a telescopic sheath (2) actuated by a driving and manoeuvring handle (3) connected via a rod (14) to a tube (16) sliding inside the sheath (2), thus making it possible, via a set of link rods (4) and (5) and pins (8) and (9) to tilt the supports (6) and (7) of the wheels (11) and (12) between two positions, one for bearing on the ground in which the wheels are away from the midplane of the load, the loading plane being parallel to the axis of the supporting wheels and the other, of retraction, in which the wheels are placed in a plane perpendicular to the loading plane. <IMAGE>
