To crystallise at least the surface skin of particles of amorphous polymer granules, and preferably thermoplastic polyester, hot gas is fed to a hopper fitted with stirrer and the granules are passed down through the draught in the opposite direction; by this means the granules and raised to crystallisation temp. The temp. of the gas as it enters the hopper is maintained at a level above that of the granules as they are removed from the hopper. The polymer is preferably polyethylene-terephthalate.
