The beverage brewing machine (1) has a reservoir (3) arranged above a brewing unit (2) and heatable by an electric heating device (5) in which water is heated. At the bottom (4) there is an outlet valve (11) which opens only when a given water temperature is reached, so that the hot water flows through an outlet pipe (12) downstream of the outlet valve (11) from the reservoir (3) over the upper surface (53) of a product (13), preferably ground coffee or tea-leaves, contained in a brewing unit (2), from which it goes to a recipient (31) as a beverage after extraction of the product (13). Hot water from the reservoir (3) can also be taken via a pipe (16) into the recipient (31) along other paths (73) than over the upper surface (53) of the additive (13). The pipe (16) follows a siphon-like path (18), the vertex (23) of which is far enough above the bottom (4) of the reservoir (3) so that hot water flows via the pipe (16) and hence via the other path (73), and also over the upper surface (53) of the additive (13) only when a certain level (48) is reached in the reservoir (3). The filter insert is also water-permeable from outside to inside. The part of the hot water flowing along the other path (73) is diverted in the region of the upper surface (53) of the product (13) to the outside (63) of the filter insert (14) and finally, after the extraction of the product (13) also reaches the recipient (31). This system makes better use of the upper edge region (27) of the product (13) during the brewing process without noticeably increasing the bitter components of the brewed beverage. |
