The method is for manufacturing the cylindrical steel area of a brake band. The cylindrical area of the band is formed by working the sheet metal material at right angles to its extension.Initially, a pot-shaped intermediate blank (dish) is formed from the sheet metal material with a sleeve-like section and a base section, and then the cylindrical area of the band is made out of the sleeve-like section.
