The plug (10) has a housing (12) with a bayonet fitting (16). An inner sleeve (18) within the housing (12) is rotatable relative to the housing (12) about a middle axis (19) but is not axially displaceable. A contact insert (20) is rotatable within the sleeve (18). A lock (30) acts between the sleeve (18) and the housing (12). When the plug (10) is pulled out, this locks the sleeve (18) against rotation. When the plug is plugged in, the lock (30) is forced open. The lock (30) is biased into its lock position by a sprung member (28). A locking element (29), having a pivotable lever (40), extends through an opening (31) in the sleeve (18). This moves radially when the plug is plugged in. This locks in dependence on the radial position of the sleeve (18) in the housing (12). ADVANTAGE - Can be easily assembled and is very durable.
