REDUCTION OF THE GRAIN SIZE OF CRYSTALLINE EXPLOSIVES

Described are a method and a device for reducing the grain size of crystalline explosive. The coarse-crystalline explosive is first dissolved in an organic solvent. The dissolved explosive is subsequently transferred to a precipitation vessel containing ice water. In the precipitation vessel, the explosive is crystallized out, the solution being subjected to turbulent stirring. Following precipitation, the crystals are filtered off. A fine-crystalline explosive is obtained with a mean grain size of 4 to 6 microns.
