The extendible sliding roof cover parts extend and slide back to form a rear stack in response to a threaded spindle which is embedded in the roof slide rail and moves the covers via driver pins, roof guide and slide components fitted with releasable arresters for each other and the rail. The slide components should comprise inner and outer sliders (22,22' and 21,21'), the inner slider engaged by pin (17) with the inner spindle (12') and the outer slider mounting a rotary gearwheel (28) engaged with a rack (29) on the inner slider. As the inner sliders starts to move relative the outer slider, the rack drives the gear via axial movement of the inner spindle so that a bolt (30) slotted (31) into a cam (32) extends this and cover part (4). At the end of the desired movement, both sliders are interlocked by synchronised rotation of both spindles (12,12') and thus entrain the extended covers to the rear for stacking.
