A new procedure for the treatment of a moist paste-like prod. has the novel features that the heated prod. is injected into a region contg. a vacuum in which it is immediately impacted by a stream of gas whose velocity is many times that of the prod., that the prod. is conveyed through the vacuum region by the gas stream, and that after traversing a path of a certain length the velocity of the prod. is reduced, the prod. is sepd. from the gas and is removed from the vacuum region. Also claimed is an appts. for carrying out the above procedure having a vertical cylindrical drying chamber connected to a vacuum device and having a prod. inlet device with a nozzle near which is a gas inlet. At the upper end of the chamber is a velocity-reduction zone leading to a prod. gas sepn. system with a vacuum seal for removal of the prod. and a gas outlet. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in handling and treatment e.g. conditioning and drying of paste-like prods. Provides rapid drying of the prod. while making optimum use of available space, and allows structural differences in the dried prod. to be simply achieved.
