Process for the preparation of nitrobenzophenones by reaction of benzene or its derivatives with nitrobenzoyl chloride in the presence of a Lewis acid, a colour-fast modification of 1,4-dimethyl-5-cyano-3-[4-(2,4-dimethylbenzoyl)phenylazo]-2-hydroxy-py rid-6-one, and its use for dyeing or printing synthetic fibre material.
