PURPOSE:To improve the crystallinity while readily controlling the size and the shape of a crystal by depositing carbon dissolved in a metal on a diamond seed crystal. CONSTITUTION:A massive metal 4 selected from a transition metal such as Fe, Ni or Co, alloys thereof, a transition metal, e.g. Fe, Ni or Co containing hydrogen and alloys thereof is placed on a parent carbon material 6 and a diamond seed crystal 3 is placed on the massive metal 4. CO2 laser 5 is then applied to the contact part between the parent carbon material 6 and the massive metal 4 in an atmosphere containing hydrogen atoms and hydrogen molecules to dissolve the parent carbon material 6 into the massive metal 4. One or both of the parent carbon material 6 and the diamond seed crystal 3 are subsequently shifted to deposit carbon on the diamond seed crystal 3. |
