PURPOSE:To obtain an image signal with a clear contour even if it is faraway or nearby by providing difference in the amt. of effectively received light of an illuminating light every one frame and emphasizing and correcting the contour based on a plurality of the obtd. image signals of an object. CONSTITUTION:An illuminating light illuminated toward an object O from a light source lamp 1 through a light guide 5 is intermittently irradiated by means of a rotary shutter 12. In addition, an irradiation period of a normal illumination NL having a specified gradation and an irradiation period of a high gradation illumination HL having a higher level than the normal illumination NL are successively repeated through a light screening period BL. A memory 18L stores an image signal obtd. during irradiating with the normal illumination NL and a memory 18H stores an image obtd. during irradiating with the high gradation illumination HL and output signals of these memories form a contour signal performing correction of the contour through horizontal and vertical contour emphasizing circuits 19N and 19H to correct the difference in the amt. of received light of a solid image pickup element caused by difference in distance of the object.
