PRODUCTION OF GLYCIDYL ESTER AND POLYVALENT GLYCIDYL ESTER PRODUCED THEREBY

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject ester useful as an excellent thermosetting material in high purity and yield by producing a halohydrin ester from a compound containing polycarboxyl group and an epihalohydrin and carrying out dehydrohalogenation reaction using a specific catalyst in each step. CONSTITUTION:A glycidyl ester is produced by dehydrohalogenating a halohydrin ester obtained by the reaction of an epihalohydrin with a polycarboxy group-containing compound obtained by reacting a polyol having >=2 hydroxyl groups in one molecule with a carboxylic acid anhydride to form a half ester. In the above reaction, a quaternary ammonium salt having 4 alkyl groups bonded to N (each alkyl group has a carbon number of <=2) (especially preferably tetramethyl ammonium chloride) is used as a catalyst in the step for forming the halohydrin ester and a quaternary ammonium salt having 4 alkyl groups (each alkyl group has a carbon number of >=4) (especially preferably tetrabutyl ammonium hydrogen sulfate) is used as a catalyst in the dehydrohalogenation step.
