PURPOSE: To provide a method and a device for filtering the blood in a blood vessel in a patient. CONSTITUTION: A catheter 30 is introduced into a blood vessel and is then advanced to a required position in the blood vessel. A part of a positioning device 12 attached at its distal end with a filter 11 is guided through the catheter 30. The filter 11 is positioned in the blood vessel at a position exceeding the distal end of the catheter 30 by means of the positioning device. The catheter 30 is locked to an object outside the blood vessel. A certain quantity of the blood in the blood vessel is filtered by the filter 11. The lock of the positioning device is released from the catheter 30, and the filter 11 in the blood vessel is displaced by the positioning device, and the positioning device is then locked to the catheter 30.
