PURPOSE: To prepare a formulation, comprising a gel matrix, a protein entrapped into the gel matrix and an ingredient capable of binding to the entrapped protein such as a drug or an antibiotic substance and capable of hydrolyzing the protein with a proteolytic enzyme and releasing the ingredient from the protein to a desired site. CONSTITUTION: This controlled-release formulation comprises a gel matrix (preferably polysaccharides capable of gelling such as pectin, a pectate, carrageenan or guar gum and further containing Mg, Zn, Al, etc.), a protein entrapped into the gel matrix (especially casein, blood serum albumin, etc.) and an ingredient capable of binding to the entrapped protein (a drug, an antibiotic substance, a hormone, a hormone analog, a chemotherapeutic agent, etc., are especially preferred). The formulation is designed to hydrolyze the protein with a proteolytic enzyme (trypsin, etc., are especially preferred) and release the ingredient from the protein into conditions containing an enzyme. The gel matrix is capable of assuming a shape such as a membrane, a fiber or a pipe. |
