PURPOSE:To obtain a carbon fiber composite material having an excellent mechanical strength by largely improving the surface wettability of a carbon fiber by applying low temp. plasma treatment to the carbon fiber in an atmosphere of a gaseous mixture consisting of air and carbon monoxide. CONSTITUTION:A carbon fiber 3 is placed on an earth electrode 2 to be subjected to a low temp. plasma treatment in a gaseous mixture of an carbon monoxide. At this time, the gaseous mixture to be used is obtained by mixing air and carbon monoxide in a ratio of 1:0.02-0.3. By this method, the surface wettability of the carbon fiber is largely improved and the surface state thereof is not changed with the elapse of time and, therefore, a carbon fiber composite material having excellent mechanical strength is obtained. |
