PURPOSE: To increase the furnace capacity without increasing the height of furnace wall. CONSTITUTION: A partition 70 disposed in a furnace in parallel with side walls 16a, 16b while extending up to the height of the furnace at the intermediate part dives the furnace into two areas 10a, 10b. A plurality of openings 70a are made at the upper part of the partition 70 while a plurality of openings 70b are made at the lower part of the partition 70. The opening 70b has dimensions allowing sufficient flow of particulate material between the furnace areas 10a, 10b and thereby the height of solid matter is substantially identical in respective areas. Since the particulate material has relatively high density at the lower part of the furnace areas 10a, 10b because of the opening 70a, height of the area can be reduced and gas pressure can be made uniform between the furnace areas 10a, 10b because of the opening 70b. |
