PURPOSE:To reduce nonmetallic inclusion in the head of rail and to provide a rail which is resistant to contact with a wheel by rolling a cast billet with a rectangular cross section which is cast with a continuous casting machine so that its bottom surface becomes the head side of rail. CONSTITUTION:At the time of producing the rail by rolling with the use of the cast billet with the rectangular cross section which is cast by either system of a bending type, vertical bending type or horizontal type or a billet obtd. by subjecting this cast billet to break-down rolling, the billet is rolled so that the bottom surface of the billet when continuously casting it becomes the head side of product after rail rolling. Consequently, the quantity of nonmetallic inclusion in the head of rail can be reduced and the rail with a head which is satisfactorily resistant to contact with a wheel at high speed and with heavy load can be obtained. |
