The apparatus includes a mandrel for selective insertion into the container eg. the ceramic electrolyte cup, at least a pant of the external surface of the mandrel being pervious to a gas, a holder to align the container with the mandrel, actuating means to move the mandrel relative to the holding means between a lining position, in which the mandrel is inserted in the container held by the holding means, and a non-lining position, in which the mandrel is clear of the container, means for wrapping a sheet of material eg. of alumina fibre around the mandrel when in said non-lining position by wrapping means, suction means for selective movement of the gas to hold the sheet to the mandrel, and release means to release the sheet when the mandrel is in said lining position from the mandrel to line the hollow container. The release means may comprise selective movement of the gas to blow the sheet away from the mandrel. |
