PURPOSE:To eliminate nonuniform luminance brightness or flicker regardless of the lighting procedures of AC drive, DC drive, or pulse drive by arranging plurality pairs of discharge electrodes of approximately identical shape and dimension of bar or spherical shape. CONSTITUTION:A pair of discharge electrodes 2, 2' are formed by machining a metallic material such an Ni or Al into bar-like or spherical shape and coating with emitter material 2a, 2a'. Eight pairs of the discharge electrodes 2, 2' of approximately identical shape and dimension are disposed in a air-tight container 4 made of a glass bulb. This arrangement produces discharge light emission from the discharge electrodes 2, 2' with a high luminance brightness. Also, lighting can be effected either with DC drive, AC drive or pulse drive without deteriorating display characteristic and without producing flicker or deterioration in luminance brightness. |
