The keyboard and the magnetic stripe reader re combined in one body for convenient use and are controlled by one CPU. The keyboard apparatus includes a main control circuit (2) for controlling the keyboard unit for communicating with a host computer and for scanning a key matrix unit (4), a magnetic striper reader (3) for reading and writing data on a magnetic card, a key matrix unit (4) for inputting data, and a system interface cable unit (5) for communicating data between keyboard unit and a host computer using RS-422 protocol.
