PURPOSE:To provide an optical head for overwrite with an improved light utilizing efficiency, by which an erasure, recording and verify can be operated by using a semiconductor laser whose output is relatively small. CONSTITUTION:This device is equipped with a semiconductor laser 2, photoirradiator 6 for erasure and photoirradiator 7 for reproduction which irradiates a magneto-optical recording medium 5 with the first light 3 and the second light 4 emitted from the semiconductor laser 2, photoirradiator 9 for recording which irradiates the magneto optical recording medium 5 with the third light 8 emitted from a semiconductor laser 40, and permanent magnet 12 which impresses magnetic fields whose direction are opposed to each other to an erase area 10 and a recording area 11. The erasure is executed by the photoirradiator for erasure, the recording is executed by the photoirradiator for recording, and the verify is operated by the photoirradiator for reproduction. The magneto-optical recording medium 5 is irradiated with the first and third lights 3 and 8 without loss, so that the outputs of the semiconductor lasers 2 and 40 can be half of those used for the conventional magneto-optical optical head. |
