<p>PURPOSE: To provide a device for splicing optical fibbers capable of splicing the optical fibers with high strength. CONSTITUTION: This device includes means for bringing the ends of the two optical fiber segments 20, 22 into contact with each other by butting the end and the end against each other and aligning these optical fiber segments along a common axis, means for fusing the optical fiber segments by a parabola reflection mirror 34 by energy 40 from an external source 68 in the contact parts where the ends are butted against each other in order to form the optical fibers fused by heating with substantially the same intensity in all the positions on the peripheries of the optical fiber segments and means for gradually fire finishing the optical fibers longitudinally along the optical fibers after the end of the fusing of the ends, thereby removing the defects on the optical fiber surfaces part from the fused ends.</p> |
