The power switching stage (3) couples an isolating switch (2) and power switch (1). The switching stage comprises several overlying contact fingers (6) within a cage (5) that engage a blade contact (7). The cage is enclosed by a housing(4). The power switch may be moved in the horizontal direction (H) while the isolating switch is separated by movement in the vertical direction (V). The blade contact is fixed to the body of the main power switch to allow the power switch to be moved in the horizontal direction without contact separation occurring.
