Devices are known for coating webs of material (3), in particular paper or cardboard webs, that have an applicator (4) and dosing system (12) mounted on swivelling arms (7, 13) in order to swivel the applicator (4) and dosing system (12) from a maintenance position to a working position at a mating roll (2). According to the invention, the swivelling mechanism of the applicator (4) and/or dosing system (12) has, besides the cylinder unit (9, 18) for swivelling from the maintenance position to the working position, a hydraulic piston-cylinder unit (10, 20) that presses the swivelling arms (7, 13) out of the working position into an intermediate position. The applicator (4) and/or dosing system (12) can thus be very quickly and accurately swivelled into or out of the working position at the mating roll (2).
