[Class 103 (i)] A distributing valve for compressed air trailer brakes is controlled by the driver's valve on the tractor and also by a piston 30 acted on by the pressure of fluid from the auxiliary reservoir on the trailer acting in the chamber 6 and the pressure of fluid from the main reservoir on the tractor acting in the chamber 31. When this latter pressure fails upon a breakaway the valve is operated to apply the trailer brakes. The trailer brake cylinder is connected to a chamber 4 and graduated brake application or exhaust is obtained by means of inlet and exhaust valve 9, 13 respectively, operated by a lever 15, a spindle 19 and a piston 20 operated by fluid supplied or released by the driver's valve to or from a chamber 21. Upon failure of main reservoir pressure in the chamber 31, auxiliary reservoir pressure forces piston 30 downwardly and by means of a sleeve 25, pins 34, a collar 33, a rod 24 and a cage 23 operates the spindle 19 and the valves 9, 13 to apply the brakes.</p> |
