The needle holder consists of an outer tube closed at one end and has an opening (4) in the side wall near the closed end. The outer tube (1) receives an inner tube (2) which has a magnet (3) fixed to its inner end. Both inner and outer tubes are made from non-magnetic material. The point of the surgical needle is inserted into the hole and is attracted by the magnet. The needle is then clamped to the holder by pressing the inner tube and magnet against the end wall of the outer tube. ADVANTAGE - The needle is easily clamped to the holder and easily released.
