The beginning of the fuel feed is adjusted via a cylinder (62) with a sliding setting piston (61) acted on by the control pressure within the fuel-filled interior of the fuel injection pump, which varies in dependence on the pump rotation rate. The setting piston (61) is displaced against the force of a resetting spring (64) and has a control groove (70) cooperating with a control opening (68) of given shape in the wall of the cylinder (62) for controlling its cross-section in dependence on the piston position.
