The spirally formed piston ring (3), in partic. for an internal combustion engine, has at least two windings (3a-b) with varying cross-sections. The winding (3a) facing the piston base (1a) has an L-shaped cross-section and that (3b, 3c) turned away from the piston base is formed as an oil scraper ring with through apertures (5).
