Sludge water removal in reduced time - uses hydrophobic reagent additive before mechanical water extn. to reduce process times

In the mechanical process to remove water from sludge, an additive as a hydrophobic flotation reagent is added to the sludge in the preliminary stage where water is removed such as by filters and/or centrifuges. The flotation reagent is pref. a collector or collector-foamer. The additive is introduced after flotation on flotation concentrations, using the same reagent as used for flotation. ADVANTAGE - The technique reduces the amt. of time required for water extn., to process greater volumes of sludge.
