The control circuit has sound detectors (12) and directional microphones (11) to monitor the impact pulses as well as the surrounding noises. The signals are processed to differentiate between normal noises, e.g. from braking and the impact pulses. The control circuit has programmed critical thresholds to activate the safety systems i.e. safety belt tensioning etc. The signals from the sensors are first passed through a multiplex A/D converter (13) and then to a spectrum analyser (14) to determine the shape of the pulses. The processor control system (1) operates on the threshold signals and activates the safety system e.g. pyrolytic charges.
