The present invention provides a formula for the prevention or treatment of non-cancerous cellular hyperproliferation. More specifically, the present intention provides for a formula including glucaric acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof for the prevention or treatment of non-cancerous cellular hyperproliferation in humans and animals. It has been determined that glucaric acid and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof inhibit non-cancerous cellular hyperproliferation when administered in therapeutic amounts. It is intended that glucaric acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is employed alone or in combination with other medical agents for the prevention or treatment of non-cancerous cellular hyperproliferation. Also provided is a dietary multivitamin and mineral supplement which includes glucaric acid or glucarate or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
