The steering shaft for motor vehicles has two shafts (1, 2) whose end sections (3, 4) which face one another are located one next to the other. The latter are angled off. Flanges (5, 6) which overlap one another are attached to the end sections (3, 4) and, in the regions which overlap one another, have bores into which guide bolts (7) which are attached to the other flange project. Said bolts protrude with their free end with respect to the flange (6) which has the bores. The part of the guide bolt (7) which protrudes with respect to the flange (6) is at least as long as the bushing penetrated by said bolt. The diameter of the protruding part of the guide bolt (7) is smaller than the diameter of that part which is received by the bushing.
