PURPOSE:To provide a filter regeneration device for an internal combustion engine which collects particulate included in the exhaust gas of an diesel engine and which is provided with a regeneration control means for ensuring high regeneration performance as well as for effectively advancing the combustion of heated particulate so as to prevent mechanical damage of a filter. CONSTITUTION:There are provided a filter 18 which collects particulate included in exhaust gas, a microwave generation means 19 which heats the collected particulate, a gas supply means 22 which supplies gas for burning the heated particulate, a control means 30 which controls operation of the gas supply means 22 or the microwave generation means 19. Filter regeneration performance and its durability are guaranteed by effectively increasing combustion of the particulate, and also suppressing any increase in combustion temperature.
