摘要

PURPOSE: To prevent the quick solidification of molten metal with a thermal insulating function by forming a portion of a side dam in contact with the cast metal in an installation for continuously casting the metal between rolls. CONSTITUTION: The refractory, constituting the portion in contact with the cast metal in the side dam tightly sealing both end parts of the casting space in the installation for continuously casting the metal between the rolls, has a fibrous structure mainly constituted with 70-98 wt.% alumina and 30-2 wt.% silica.
