Compounds of the formula <CHEM> wherein R1 is hydrogen or hydroxyl; R2 is hydrogen; hydroxyl or methyl, R3 is hydrogen or hydroxyl; R4 is C5-C23 alkyl, C5-C23 alkenyl, aryl or substituted aryl; R5 is -CH2OH, -CH(CH3)OH, -CH(CH2CONH2)OH; R6 is -CH2OH or -CH(CH3)OH; R is -CH2OH or -CH(CH3)OH; provided that when R4 is -(CH2)8CH(CH3)CH2CH(CH3)C2H5, R5 is -CH2OH or -CH(CH3)OH. The compounds are useful as antimicrobial agents, especially as antifungal agents. |
