PURPOSE:To enable direct, sure and automatic sensing of cutting maloperation of a cutter when the maloperation occurs in an apparatus, used for drawing an optical preform and capable of automatically cutting a drawn optical fiber preform rod to a prescribed length and producing optical fiber, etc. CONSTITUTION:An apparatus for drawing an optical fiber preform is equipped with a sensor 10 for cutting maloperation having an optical fiber preform sensing arm 13 rotating on a vertical rotating shaft transversely shifted from a drawn optical fiber preform rod 9 and in a horizontal plane. The sensor is supported just under a cutter 8 so as to lower at the same speed as the lowering speed of the above-mentioned cutter 8. A driving unit for rotating the sensing arm 13 after the passage of a prescribed time from issuance of an operation command to the cutter 8 is installed in the sensor 10 for the cutting maloperation. |
