PURPOSE:To provide a multivalue optical recording medium enabling high speed access using a multivalue recordable optical recording material and capable of miniaturizing an optical head to be used. CONSTITUTION:A metal complex compound is used as the recording material of an optical recording medium 9 and a reflecting film is provided to said medium 9. When complex ion circumferential environment is changed according to the irradiation intensity of semiconductor laser 4, the absorption spectrum of the metal complex compound is changed variously and, therefore, this phenomenon is utilized to perform multivalue recording. In the reading of data, the optical recording medium 9 is irradiated with reading wavelength variable laser 5 and reflected beam is spectrally diffracted by a spectral prism 10 to detect spectral intensity. A reading beam irradiation part and a reading part are provided only in one direction of the optical recording medium 9 and the apparatus can be miniaturized. |
