PURPOSE:To provide an ink jet printer capable of preventing the trouble of a cap device protecting a nozzle at the time of the replacement of a cartridge. CONSTITUTION:A cap device 10 is usually covered with a cover 12 and the nozzle of an ink jet printer head is covered with the cap device 10 when a cartridge 5 is moved to the outside of a printing region along with a carrier 4 and, when a head maintenance and inspection mode is set by an input part 15, the carrier 4 is moved to be opposed to the opening 11 of the cover 12. By this constitution, the operation part 6 of a clamp 7 is operated to easily replace the cartridge 5 on the carrier 4 without touching the cap device 10 with the hand and the trouble of the cap device caused by the touching of the cap device 10 with the hand at the time of the replacement of the cartridge is prevented. |
